Secure Remote Desktop access
Use a strong, unique password for each administrative account and avoid sharing it through a group conversation. Review which accounts can sign in. Where supported by your access design, use a VPN or gateway and restrict the remote-access source rather than exposing access broadly.
Microsoft documents Remote Desktop gateways and Network Level Authentication as parts of a controlled access design. Their availability and configuration depend on the environment. Before changing firewall or remote-access settings, verify an alternative recovery route so you do not lock yourself out.
Control software and permissions
- Install terminal software from the broker or official platform source.
- Keep an inventory of EAs, indicators and libraries with their versions and origins.
- Enable external or DLL permissions only for software whose requirements and source you understand.
- Keep ordinary application work separate from administrative tasks where practicable.
- Remove unused remote-access accounts and unnecessary services.
An EA can have broader access than its trading function suggests. Ask its developer to explain required connections and libraries. A platform permission switch is not a substitute for checking the program’s origin.
Schedule maintenance deliberately
Keep the operating system and supported applications maintained, but plan changes around the trading environment. Record a maintenance window, backup state and restart procedure. Test significant program or configuration changes in a separate demo workspace first.
After updates, verify the terminal connection, program initialization and logs. Host availability and application health are separate checks: Remote Desktop can be reachable while the terminal is disconnected or an EA has failed.
Protect recovery data
| Control | Acceptance check |
|---|---|
| Backup contents | Programs, configuration and necessary data are included; secrets are handled deliberately. |
| Independent copy | The usable backup does not depend solely on the primary machine. |
| Access restriction | Only intended administrators can retrieve or change the copy. |
| Restore test | A test environment can be rebuilt and the intended application state verified. |
RAID, an application installer and an occasional screenshot are not equivalent to a recoverable backup. Agree which backups are supplied and which you must operate yourself.
If compromise is suspected
Use a trusted environment to contact the infrastructure administrator. Preserve relevant timestamps and logs, restrict affected access and investigate the scope. Replace exposed credentials from a clean environment after access is controlled. Restore only from a known trustworthy state.
Do not post passwords, private keys or client information in diagnostic messages. Define the incident contact route and responsibility boundary in advance; a service provider cannot infer which application credentials and business workflows are affected without your input.
